About Drymen

Drymen is a small village in Stirlingshire, about 20 miles north of Glasgow, on the southern edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

It is a close community and an unhurried one, and the village has worked to keep it that way. Village life runs around the square — a handful of shops, the primary school, the pubs. The Clachan Inn has held a licence since 1734, which makes it one of the oldest in Scotland. People here know each other, and Drymen has resisted the sort of development that would change that.

What brings visitors from far and wide is the scenery on the doorstep. The Highland Boundary Fault runs straight through Loch Lomond, which is why the climb up Conic Hill, six miles away, lines the islands up in a row beneath you. Ben Lomond, Scotland's most southerly Munro, is about ten miles on. Duncryne is a forty-minute walk for the easiest big view in the area. The West Highland Way passes through the village, and Drymen is a common first overnight stop for walkers heading north.

Drymen also works as a base. The Trossachs are half an hour north, Stirling and its castle half an hour east, and Glasgow well under an hour south.
