The Old Mill

A very nice and pleasant venue with reasonably tasty food. Unfortunately, the service was very poor; the young, tall female manager deserves at least a reprimand—if not dismissal—for her haughty and arrogant attitude. They forgot to prepare our main course after the appetizers. Then, the wrong order was brought out, forcing me to wait again; by the time the meal arrived, it was merely warm rather than hot. When I asked for salt, I was told it would be brought over, but—of course—it never was. The aforementioned young woman was already acting sullen and haughty; the rest of the staff were okay, though they clearly showed a bias against us, even though we were polite and courteous. The young waiter tried very hard and was truly five-star quality. We received no compensation whatsoever, which was very disappointing. He is the one who deserves recognition. It is unpleasant to leave a negative review, but unfortunately, that is the reality of the situation.

First day in Scotland and this was the first restaurant we had. I fear it set my standards high for food in the area. Everything was incredibly delicious! Ordered the Scottish Sirloin. I would definitely recommend this place!

(Detailed review below) Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Accessibilty ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Cost ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I came here recently on a Sunday with family/friends and had a really nice, relaxed time! It wasn't too busy (we had booked ahead because of our group size) and the vibe was cosy, casual and comfortable. There is an extension/outdoor area that was spacious and lovely but we were sat indoors in what I can only assume is the old mill (hence the name) and the space is a bit tight. There are sections that are wheelchair accessible but some passages are narrow or may have steps. I had the Sunday roast and really enjoyed it. The taste was great but I could have done with just a bit more roasted vegetables. Also, the knives weren't very sharp. Minor issues but something that could be improved on. My dessert (a chocolate mousse thing with a scoop of caramel ice cream) was delicious too! This place is pet friendly (indoors and outdoors) and we had a dog 🐶 with us that got some love by the staff (free water, doggy biscuits... plus lots of scratchings behind the ear). Overall, it's definitely a lovely stop even for a drink (they have a bar) and easily recommended to anyone!
