We arrived in Callender on a Sunday evening and wanted a meal. The Waverley is not a bad pub but I was a bit disappointed with my burger. Apparently the Mac and cheese was good.
Having been before we like the atmosphere and the friendliness of this pub/hotel. Sadly we decided to eat on this visit. We both chose the duo roast ( turkey and sirloin). The menu said it came with honey maple roasted carrots and cauliflower cheese. We also paid extra for pigs in blankets which were sausages with no bacon. The rest of these items were not on our plates. The roast potatoes were dry and well overcooked. These along with the what we believe were roast parsnips appear to have been cooked some time previously then microwaved for service. The meat also was just warm and not very edible. The peas on one plate were nice along with the gravy. Definitely not the meals we were hoping for and would not order again. Can’t fault the rest of the hospitality side though. Staff and pub are lovely. Let down by the food on this occasion.
Stopped off in Calendar for late lunch & glad I chose this place. Not expensive for the location & the service was quick. Food was delicious. I had highland burger with haggis & peppercorn sauce. Loved it & big portion. Also side of cheesy garlic bread which I could've had even more of it was so good
